This striking building is the Los Angeles Stock Exchange building at 618 S. Spring Street in downtown L.A. Ironically, it commenced construction in October 1929. What else happened that month? Oh yeah . . . the Wall Street crash that signaled the beginning of the 10-year Great Depression. How’s that for timing? By the time building actually opened for business—1931—the country was in deep doo-doo. The building is still there; when I toured it a few years ago there were plans to make it into a nightclub and the floor of the stock exchange was going to be the dance floor!
