This photograph of Hollywood Boulevard (looking east from Orange Drive) was taken in 1939, and most of the buildings we can see are still there: the Roosevelt Hotel on the right, Grauman’s Chinese on the left and farther along, the tall, white First National Bank building. The most significant thing missing are the streetcar tracks. The Boulevard looks so calm, so sedate, doesn’t it? Come to think of it, it looks sedate even for 1939, so maybe this was taken on a Sunday morning.
