There’s just something night shots of downtown L.A., especially ones taken in the 1930s as this one was. This is the view of downtown L.A. from the top of L.A. City Hall in 1931. The glow of the streetlights, the inky shadows in between, the dusky sun – it’s really no wonder film noir took off when it did. Filmmakers had a readymade backdrop!
