In the 1920s, one of the busiest movie studios were the Mack Sennett Studios (Keystone Kops, Ben Turpin, Mabel Normand.) The studio stood at 1712 Glendale Blvd., Silver Lake. This was the front gate – it looks to me like anyone could just wander in and ask for a job in the flickers! (This photo is circa 1922.)

In this circa 1920 photo, it looks like the “security guard” at the front gate wouldn’t be hard to push past!
