If you’ve been following me for any amount of time, you’ll know that I sure do love me a spectacular L.A. vintage photo – movie premiere at Grauman’s or Carthay Circle, an aerial shot of the Sunset Strip, a view of the Hollywood sign. I find them a endlessly interesting. But I also really love shots like this. They give us a glimpse into life in Hollywood during the golden era – some parked cars, a line of store selling shoes and making loans, and a couple out for a stroll. In my books, I try to capture life during that time and place, and it’s photos like this which help me to do that. This was taken in 1939, and we’re looking north along Vine Street from the Sunset & Vine corner where the NBC studios once stood.
