This night shot of Hollywood Boulevard shows the Hollywood Theater all lit up in a blaze of Art Deco neon. “Love Affair” with Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer is playing, which means this shot is from 1939, the peak year of Hollywood’s classic era. (That movie would be remade in 1957 as “An Affair to Remember” with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.) We can also see the Hotel Christie – it opened in 1922 and was the first hotel in Hollywood to feature private bathrooms.
