I love this photo of Alla Nazimova for a number of reasons. All she’s doing is watering her trees, but as the master of the Big Dramatic Pose, most shots you see of her are arranged for Maximum Dramatic Effect, so you rarely get a sense that she had a life away from the camera and the stage. Here she’s just doing the watering like a regular person! Plus, I’d bet my last dime that the trees she’s watering at on the property 8152 Sunset Blvd that later became the Garden of Allah Hotel.
