The first drive-in theater in California at 10850 W. Pico Blvd, 1934The novelty of sitting in your car to watch movies arrived not too long after the novelty of hearing movies talk. The first drive-in theater in California was imaginatively called “The Drive-In Theater” and it opened September 9th, 1934 at 10850 W. Pico Blvd. This photo was taken the following year, 1935. As others sprang up, it changed its name to the Pacific Drive-In and lasted until 1947.
