Matchbook from the Cocoanut Grove nightclub at the Ambassador Hotel, Wilshire Blvd, Los AngelesHow cute is this? The matchbooks at the Cocoanut Grove had little monkeys climbing the palm trees printed on them!
(I wonder how many of these match books Gwendolyn gave out…?)

Here is another version of the Cocoanut grove ashtray using 22-karat gold (assuming the text on the underside is truthful and accurate. (My thanks to Bill Wolfe for sending me these photos of his ashtray.)

My version of the ash tray is black with gold leaf for the lettering and figure.

    Hello,
What years did they use those ashtrays?
    Thanks!

    • Hi Greg, I’m sorry but I don’t have any dates on these items. The Cocoanut Grove was open for so long and went through several makeovers, refurbishments, and incarnations that it’s hard to track them.

The top white one was photographed on my living room sofa. I never noticed this till just now.
I’ve had this ashtray for at least 40 years and it’s on my coffee table now. I’m thrilled you posted it for all so see. I’ve never seen another one in white.

I love the white ones. I’ll be searching high and low I bet.
A t-shirt would also be something I’d like to get. Perhaps I’ll make some.
