The Garden Court Apartments at 7021 Hollywood Boulevard (near Grauman’s), opened on New Year’s Eve, 1919 (Hollywood Boulevard was still semi-residential.) It was very grand for its time – each suite included a baby grand, oil paintings and oriental carpets, and became home of some of early Hollywood’s celebrities, including Louis B. Mayer, Rudolph Valentino and Lillian Gish. Finding a photo of the exterior of the Garden Court isn’t too hard, but I’ve never seen what the main lobby looked like until I discovered this photo. It was taken in 1926.
Too delicious for words. I want that couch. Now.
