If I were a streetcar driver in 1936, this would have been my view as I steered the Red Car westward along Hollywood Boulevard toward the Highland Ave intersection. Oh look – “The Ex-Mrs. Bradford” starring William Powell and Jean Arthur is playing at Grauman’s Egyptian. I must catch it before RKO replace it with something else next week.
Such a unique shot dripping with detail! Love the sidecar on the motorbike. I’d like to be sitting there in 1936 with a breeze blowing through my hair as the driver squired me down Hollywood Blvd. haha! And I’d wave at you, Martin, as you drove past in the Red Car!
I used to live way further down Hollywood Blvd. in the “quiet” residential section, although Laurel Canyon a few blocks west was used to access the Valley. This was in the early ’80s, but I remember it like yesterday.
Thank you, Martin, for all your wonderful pictures!
