To find an interior shot of Ciro’s nightclub on the Sunset Boulevard isn’t impossible, but it is rare, so naturally I jumped all over this one. The dance floor looks smaller than I imagined, but the tables are less crowded that I assumed they’d be – which of course makes for easier table hopping. And if Gable, Garland, Gardner and Grable were in the room, you can bet that’s how I’d spend my night.
I have some recollection that the original dance floor at Ciro’s was too large and seemed empty even when people were on it, so when the club changed hands they shrank the area and put in extra tables. Maybe I read that in “Dancing at Ciro’s,” by Sheila Weller? I think this is post remodel or perhaps the second room that they put in when they expanded the footprint. I would love to have a floor plan of the club showing the various stages and private dining areas.
Yes, checked my source and it is Weller who talks about her uncle shrinking the dance floor, removing all mirrors from the room (never seen a picture WITH mirrors), adding nightclub acts and making the place a little more friendly for the general public. Her book is mainly a memoir about her family, but there are some nice anecdotes about the club scattered through it.

As a matter of fact, Jean, I used this photo as a guide when setting scenes at Ciro’s. It’s a gem!
