This photo of Los Angeles City Hall at what looks like dawn seems like nothing out of the ordinary … until you learn that it’s actually night time and the City Hall is being backlit by a nuclear weapon test taking place some 300 miles away in Yucca Flat, Nevada. (May 7, 1952) Yikes! Suddenly 300 miles doesn’t seem nearly quite far away enough!
