Westwood Drug, Westwood Village, 1950s

Westwood Drug, Westwood Village, 1950sWith so many of the photos I find in black and white, it’s great to find the ones in color, like this shot of Westwood Drug in the 1950s. I love that it has a tower – these days, you wouldn’t find Rite Aid or CVG building an ornamental tower onto one of their pharmacies, but I bet everyone in the neighborhood knew where Westwood Drug was!

    Hi Martin,
Wonderful site and photos ; where was this drugstore located ??
    Keep up the good work,
    Kind regards

    • Thanks Ronny. I did some digging to see if I could find a specific location, but came up empty-handed.

Ok, no problem, what a terrific photo , writing you from Belgium, i was in Los Angeles last year, but only for one week. I stayed in Cerritos with friends. One week is way, way too short of course. Most Europeans prefer NYC, or San Fransisco, etc. when they visit the US, but I’m really a big (movie)fan of LA and its history. Where and how do you manage to find all those wonderful pictures ??
        Regards

I can’t remember the side street but it was on Westwood Blvd. I should know my grandfather was a cook there. I went there from the time I was little to watch the parades come down Westwood blvd to my later teen years. Kareem Abdul Jabar came almost everyday where my grandpa would cook and sit and eat hamburgers with him while he was attending UCLA.

The side street is the one that led down to the movie theaters, with the Bruin on the right and the fox across the street. It is the same street that the hamburger hamlet was on.
