Traffic on the corner of Wilshire Blvd and Western Ave, 1931

Traffic on the corner of Wilshire Blvd and Western Ave, 1931Looks like it’s peak hour at the corner of Wilshire Blvd and Western Ave in 1931. Thank goodness they’ve got those nifty semaphore traffic signals to keep things orderly. On the far right hand side, we can see the word Warner. That’s the sign for the then-brand-new theater built that year on the Wilshire/Western corner. These days we know it as the Wiltern, but back then, it was called the Warner Brothers Western Theater. But look at the size of the street signs for Western Ave. How’s a driver supposed to see those?
