La Grande railway station, downtown Los Angeles, 1930

A burro-drawn covered wagon awaits Death Valley-bound passengers at the La Grande Station in 1930.The La Grande Station was the Los Angeles terminus of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. It opened in 1893 at the corner of 2nd St and Santa Fe Ave in downtown L.A. This photo was taken in 1930 and shows a burro-drawn wagon advertising the fact that a wagon takes 10 days to get to Death Valley, but Essex Car Tours only take six hours. Quite frankly, I’d be asking how long it takes to get to the Biltmore Hotel.

La Grande Station, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway's main railroad station in Los Angeles, California.

I have a picture of the Santa fe railroad with 8 trains leaving Los Angeles to invite the world to California. It looks like the people in the picture are dressed from the 20 -30’s. The engine numbers are 3728,3719,3700,3740,3743,3725,3731 and 3748. The actually could be 57’s they are hard to read. The picture is 36×20 and black and white. I got it from my grandparents that worked there until the 50’s. Do you have any info on this picture?
