Dolphin Court restaurant, patio dining at the Ambassador Hotel, Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles

Patio dining at the Ambassador Hotel's Dolphin Court, taken sometime between 1923 and 1933

In all the years I’ve been reading, writing about, and researching the Ambassador Hotel for my novels, I’ve never come across the Dolphin Court restaurant. Apparently it featured patio dining, which as we can see at the very top of the photo, they thoughtfully covered to keep diners’ delicate heads protected from the California sun. According to the notation on this photo, it was taken between 1923 and 1933.

Below is a napkin from the Ambassador Hotel which shows the 8 different venues at the hotel:

  • Palm Room
  • The Lounge
  • Dolphin Court
  • Cocoanut Grove
  • Cafe Ambassador
  • French Room
  • Petite Cafe
  • Casino
