Of all the intersections in Hollywood, it’s the corner of Sunset and Vine that seems to have been photographed the most—and I’m not complaining, especially when the photographer thought take it in glorious Kodachrome. This is from the mid-1950s, and we can see from the sign in front of the NBC studios (“KRCA TELEVISION, CHANNEL 4”) that it’s been converted from radio. We’re looking up Vine Street toward Hollywood Blvd, with the ABC studios and Broadway department store on the left side of the street, and the Hollywood hills in the far background.
Great shot Martin! Just when I thought there weren’t any NEW color shots of this corner! Wonder what the “IMPORTS” sign means on the former Tropics/Tom Breneman’s rooftop sign?

Thanks, Mark – it’s a terrific one, isn’t it? ! I don’t know what that imports sign is but I’m going to keep an eye out for it in other shots now.
