Widow of pioneer filmmaker, Thomas H. Ince, originally built the gorgeous Château Élysée at 5930 Franklin Ave as a luxury long-term residential apartment house for movie stars. The names associated with it almost rival those who stayed at the Garden of Allah. They include: Bette Davis, Errol Flynn Edward G. Robinson, Carol Lombard, Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Ginger Rogers, Lillian Gish, Katharine Hepburn, George Gershwin, and Cary Grant. The good news is that it’s still there and in wonderful condition . . . but that’s because it’s in the hands of the Scientologists.
According to that year’s federal census, actress Marceline Day was residing at the Château Élysée in 1930.
