Looking north toward the Brown Derby on Vine, Hollywood, 1939Here is a 1939 shot of Vine St, Hollywood looking north from the Selma Street corner where Trader Joe’s is now. We can see the Vine St Brown Derby, and farther up, the Taft Building, where Charlie Chaplin, Will Rogers, and the Academy had offices. This block is now so dominated by the W Hotel and apartments that by comparison, this photo makes the area look so open and underdeveloped (in a good way.)
