The Warner Brothers Western Theater (later the Wiltern), corner Wilshire and Western, Los Angeles, 1932The Wiltern Theater is a well-known palace of Art Deco-ness on the corner of Wilshire Blvd and Western Ave. It opened in 1931 but wasn’t originally called the Wiltern. It opened its doors as the “Warner Brothers Western Theater” – it was Warner’s flagship theater into which they installed the largest theater pipe organ in the western United States. But the Warner connection only lasted a year, so photos like this one are rare. What we see here is Barbara Stanwyck movie called “The Purchase Price” which opened summer of 1932.
