The Florentine Gardens nightclub opened at 5951 Hollywood Boulevard on December 28th 1938. It must have been an impressive place: it could hold 500 people, as much as Earl Carroll’s. It was a popular club featuring Italian food and an often risqué floorshow. By the late 40s/early 50s it had become known more for its scantily clad girlie shows. Probably its biggest claim to fame is that in 1942 Marilyn Monroe and Jim Dougherty held their wedding reception here. The place is still there, complete with the same name, but now appears to be a Latin club.
