This was how the entrance to RKO studios looked back in the late 1920s. Remarkably unremarkable, isn’t it? It was on Gower Street, just up from Melrose Ave, and a couple of blocks north was Columbia Studios. What’s also remarkable is how this entrance, now a part of Paramount, is almost the same.
The RKO entrance! Used this several times when I parked along Gower. Depending on where I was assigned on the lot depended on which entrance I used. I believe the awnings were still there shading those windows. This was back in the ’80s, but sure evokes good memories.
Here’s a closer shot of the entrance with Lucy and Desi when Desilu was on the lot. Nice seeing them smiling and still holding hands. Those were the days when you could buy large-sheet newspapers for only a dime!
