View of the Hollywoodland sign from south, 1930

View of Los Angeles with Hollywoodland sign in the background 1930 PINI wish I knew where this photo was taken – I’d look up the address to see either of these lovely homes were still around. All I know is that it was taken in 1930 in some location with a direct view of the Hollywoodland sign, which we can see far off in the background. It looks kind of hilly, so I’m thinking maybe Baldwin Hills…? Anybody got any theories?

I’m thinking east of the river and south on a line from Mt. Washington, so perhaps Boyle Heights (was the early sign smaller in dimensions, as this could throw off your estimate of distance)?

This shot is well south of the development already: https://www.martinturnbull.com/2013/06/01/building-castles-in-the-hollywoodland-hills-mid-1920s/
So, at least 2-3 times that distance.

Did a lot of comparisons. This is as far south as Barton. Going east hits Silverlake. A line of sight from there runs through the Observatory location to the sign and is a good match for the angle. So, got to be Silverlake area.

2361 Allview Terrace West, behind the hedge
    2416 Hollyridge Drive

The roofs on both of there houses are still the same.

  5. Outskirts of Eagle Rock. A retired jockey owns four of these places in Ransom out to individuals and porn productions. They’re pretty beautiful and also by gravity a bit

Why do you say Eagle Rock? See the two addresses I posted above. They are right in Hollywood. The much newer 2402 Hollyridge Drive is now between the two in the picture. 2146 Hollyridge is more recognizable, and 2361 Allview Terrace West is behind a hedge.

You should visit the neighborhood, now and compare. Then and now puzzles are so fun.
