View of Beverly Hills from the roof of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, circa late 1920sThis shot was taken from the roof of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel at the corner of Wilshire Blvd and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills in what I guess to be the late 1920s. The hotel (originally apartments) opened in 1928. So we’re seeing what the shopping precinct of Beverly Hills looked like when it was just getting started. Those girls are holding signs that say “10 years ago an orange grove” and “10 years ago a bean field” so to them, what building they can is marks real progress. They’d probably shake their head at what’s there now.
