I’m used to seeing the Hollywood Bowl is all its various shapes and incarnations that it’s odd to see it with no bowl at all. This shot was taken in 1923, a year after it opened, and three years before it got its first shell in 1926. During those intervening years, there was just a stage. I wonder what the sound was like for the chap in the boater hat sitting way up in the back like that.
