This shot is circa 1957 and shows the effect an atomic bomb test in the predawn light of downtown L.A. By the way it’s lighting up the sky, you’d think the bomb was being detonated on the outskirts of L.A. In fact, the bomb went off 200 miles east of Mercury, Nevada, which is 70 miles outside of Las Vegas. If it was this bright in Los Angeles, you have to wonder who bright it was on the Las Vegas Strip, don’t you?
