I sometimes wonder if it’s from photos like this that film noir emerged. This 1943 shot was taken from City Hall during a WWII dim out when the West Coast was considered a seriously potential target from Japanese attack. In the foreground we can see the beautiful and long-lamented Hall of Records building.

These lights seem awfully bright for a dim out, don’t you think?
