The Pan Pacific Auditorium is one of my favorite lost Streamline Moderne buildings in Los Angeles. It opened in the mid 1930s where it stood at 7600 West Beverly Boulevard near the site of the Gilmore Field baseball stadium. For 35 years it hosted political events, car shows, circuses, conventions, and concerts until it closed in 1972, then stood neglected for another 17 years until an enormous fire engulfed it.
General Eisenhower spoke to a crowd of 10000 people at the Pan Pacific Auditorium in 1952 a month before being elected President:
The next three photos were taken by George Geary in the early 1980s after Xanadu came out:Aerial shot of Gilmore Stadium, Gilmore Field, Gilmore Drive-in, Farmer’s Market, and the Pan Pacific Auditorium.jpg

This is what it looked like by 1984:
Hello,
I am looking for a large print of one of these photos of the pan pacific auditorium. Do you know how I could find one or buy an electronic copy to print locally? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I am trying to do the same – please let me know if you find one? thank you!
Is this piece of art decco architecture still with us? What a magnificent structure. Lousy people writing graffiti on such a gem!!! What a messed up world we now live in.
No, it burned down in the 80s. There’s now a small structure on that lot which sort of commemorates it.
Thanks for the memories, which btw is the name of a tune that Bob Hope stole from a co-star who was originally supposed to sing in a Hope flick, but Bob, as was true to character, stole, and went on to adopt as his ‘theme song’ to which he was identified throughout his career. My Uncle, Charles Solomon, was Hope’s ‘wardrobe man’ who traveled with Hope during his travels to entertain the troops during the Vietnam War. I attended many a basketball double-header with SC and UCLA hosting other Pac 10 rivals.
