The westbound Pacific Electric Railway Venice Line passes by the Beverly Hills City Hall on Santa Monica Boulevard at Crescent Drive in 1950. In the earlier days, Santa Monica Blvd was called Railway Ave and carried the “Balloon Route” which started in downtown LA, and went all the way out to the Pacific and back again. It departed downtown at 9:30 am each day and returned to downtown at 5:00 pm – and all for the cost of one dollar.
Dear Martin: Don’t know where you found this, but it surely brought back memories.
Our house was on Crescent Dr. (2nd house north of Santa Monica Blvd. and the lovely pathway-garden which ran parallel to Santa Monica Blvd through nearly all of Beverly Hills (Picture or pictures?). Am currently reading “The Trouble with Scarlett” and loving it. Happy Sunday! From your forever friend.
