Color photos from the 1940s tend to be few and far between, so I’m always grateful to come across one. This is from 1949 and shows the studios of RCA Victor, which stood at 1510 N. Vine St, Hollywood, just north of the NBC Radio Studios on the Sunset/Vine corner. I’m not sure why, but I would have expected something…spiffier…?
Hi – I think that the Capitol Records building (circa 1952-3) was what what changed forever the look of entertainment related buildings. I was working for Y&R 1951-54 & I can remember that building going up. It looked very strange for its time, but we soon got used to it. Last night after I climbed into bed I put Sinatra’s “Ole Blue Eyes Is Back” CD on, and it just doesn’t get any better than that for me (perhaps Waylon’s “MacArthur Park” is equal). Best wishes always.

I wish I had a sharper enlargement of this photo of RCA building (at Selma) to see if that is my father standing in front. That year he was appointed W Reg Mgr with his office there
