There are many buildings from Hollywood’s golden era that I wish were still around, but this is one that I really wish could have been saved. This is the original Walt Disney Studios at 2719 Hyperion Ave in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles. The Disney studios started in 1926 with two small offices for Walt and Roy Disney, a camera room, and a much larger area for the animation staff. I love how the sign on the building highlights how they’re making *sound* cartoons. The Disney studio began its transition over to the Burbank lot in 1939, and in the mid-60s the building was torn down to make way for a supermarket. Because if there’s one thing LA needed, it was another supermarket.
I remember Mrs Carl Stalling telling me that after Walt’s move to Burbank The soundstage was used for the Thompson Vitamin factory…(remember Thompson, (a real old tried and true vitamin brand..)They were and still are high end vitamins.
