This shot of the Hollywood Freeway was taken from the Vermont Ave Bridge in September 1951. LA’s freeways are such a part of the cityscape now, it’s hard to imagine them not being there, and if they are, to be completely free of cars like this. According to Wikipedia, within a year of opening, the Hollywood freeway was carrying twice the number of cars per year that it was designed to handle. I can’t imagine what that number is now.
