It looks like Esther’s Beauty Salon and Baths at 1769 N. Cahuenga Blvd. was around in the 1920s. I rarely come across photos of what we would now call a day spa, so this one stood out. The two signs that caught my eye were: (a) “reducing” – that’s a term we don’t see anymore because these days the only sort of diet we go on is to lose weight. Back then, with nutrition less understood, there were diets to fatten you up. And (b) “Sulforall Health” – Sulforall was a brand of some sort, but I’m not sure of what. Only one website told me: “Powdered sulfur is found in lotions and skin cream ingredients.” Does anyone reading this know anything more?
