LACMA (Los Angeles County of Modern Art) currently has a large exhibition of architectural models built by Frank Gehry in preparation for his various projects. One of them on display is his proposed building for the redevelopment at 8150 Sunset Blvd, currently an eye-sore of a mini mall, but was once the site of the Garden of Allah Hotel. I’d seen a couple of photos of the model, but was keen to take advantage of the opportunity to see it for myself.
One interesting thing they do is also build the surrounding area so that the architects and developers can get a realistic view of the impact of the project. I was amazed and impressed to see that Gehry’s team build half of West Hollywood, but a portion of the Hollywood Hills as well.
I am so excited about the Garden of Allah project by that wonderful architect to whom you introduced me via your web-site. Please keep us up-dated. Love.
I am so NOT excited about the Garden of Allah project by that awful architect. I hope his design is roundly and soundly rejected.
Hear Hear to MP! Gehry’s work is the definition of “monstrosity” — That Disney Concert Hall looks like some space station debris that crashed to earth. Why is his stuff always falling over?
Oh dear. This is absolute pure filth
