Daylight view of Carthay Circle Theatre with parking lot, circa 1939Because it was often the site for big glam Hollywood premieres – especially as it lit up so well at night – we most usually see photos of the Carthay Circle Theatre at night. So I tend to forget that it was also just a regular ol’ neighborhood movie house for the locals, which is why I like this daytime shot with the trees and the cars in the parking lot. The movie playing at the Carthay Circle that day was Unconquered starring Gary Cooper and Paulette Goddard in 1947.

Here are some interior shots of the Carthay Circle Theatre:

  1. I spent many a happy afternoon watching a film at the Carthay Circle Theatre. Find it virtually criminal that it was torn down. Love always.
