8000 block of Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, 1933

8570 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, 1933 1This is actually a close up of a larger photo showing the 8000 block of Santa Monica Blvd in 1933. I was struck by two things: look at the wonderful art deco detailing above the doorway of Olins & Sons Draperies! Also, the store next to Olins is the “Fearless Camera Co. & Cinema Sound Co.” I wonder what made them fearless. Did the go where regular camera operators feared to tread?

This is the larger photo, reminding us that Santa Monica once had tracks running down the middle of it.

Beautiful art deco on these buildings. Hard imagining that at one time, much of Los Angeles looked like this stretch of Santa Monica Blvd. with open spaces and fewer buildings.

I noticed that the Fearless company was advertising cinema sound equipment. A Mr. Fear, in the late ’20s, introduced and had designed a new 65mm camera that was also adaptable to 35mm

His company also designed a Panoram Dolly that debuted in 1936 and quickly became standard studio equipment.
