Stylized night shot of Simon's Drive-In, corner of Wilshire Blvd and Fairfax Ave, Los AngelesSimon’s Drive-In stood at the corner of Wilshire Blvd and Fairfax Ave, where Johnny’s now stands, across from the May Co. department store building where the new Academy museum is going in. It was a very popular place and lit up gorgeously at night. I couldn’t find any information on this amazing shot—it looks like the photographer has had one too many double-shot espressos! I have a clear photo of Simon’s on my website: http://wp.me/p5XK3w-oz

From Andie: “Double Exposure – common with the twin lens reflex cameras of that era – I bet it was taken with a Rolliflex – they were designed to do stuff like this. The film was advanced manually so the first shot was taken with a short exposure time and then the second shot with a longer exposure time. (I still have my Mamiya TLRs and a huge Koni Omegaflex TLR that I often used to take double exposures. When you see a square format shot – it is usually from one a TLR because the 120 film was exposed in a 6 x 6 cm square.
