If I were able to get my hands on one of those elusive time machines, I’d go back to the late 1930s, buy one of these 1938 Cadillacs (with 2016 money it’d be a cinch) and go to the Bullocks Wilshire department store on Wilshire Blvd and roam around the store that represents (to me, at least) the height of the golden-era Hollywood retail experience. (Then I’d go down the street to luncheon at the Brown Derby, then drive straight to MGM and somehow talk my way onto the lot.)
And here is a colorized version of the top photo. Kind of brings it all to life, doesn’t it?
Martin, I’ll race ya to the 1930s but once there, I’m ditching the time machine! One-way ride for me.
The wonderful book “Harlow in Hollywood” used as its cover art a gorgeous portrait taken of Jean in the Bullocks on Wilshire.

Thanks, Martin.
