If a time machine were to drop me in L.A. some time in the 1930s, I wouldn’t be unhappy if this is where it plopped me. The year is 1937, so the worst of the Depression is behind us, and the zenith year of Hollywood movie making—1939—lays ahead. We’re on Wilshire Blvd looking west toward the Warner Bros. Theatre, which is showing “Virginia City” with Errol Flynn, Miriam Hopkins, Randolph Scott, and Humphrey Bogart. Past that is the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, the palm trees are young and the traffic is light. #bliss
