Roosevelt Highway (now the PCH) and pedestrian bridge at Thelma Todd’s Sidewalk Cafe, 1935

roosevelt-highway-now-the-pch-and-pedestrian-bridge-at-thelma-todds-1935Thelma Todd was a popular actress in the late 20s to mid 30s. In 1934, she opened a place in the Pacific Palisades called Thelma Todd’s Sidewalk Café at 17575 Pacific Coast Hwy (then called Roosevelt Hwy) just north of where Sunset meets the Pacific. I’ve seen photos of it before, but never noticed that sweet pedestrian bridge.

  1. Hi – have driven past Thelma Todd’s place so many times & always wondered about her death; guess we will never know the truth. The rumors were so wild – including Lucky Luciano. Love you, Blue & Lou,

Always wondered how she got her nickname “the ice cream blonde.” Tragic ending to such a pretty comedienne that is still a mystery all these years later.

    Thanks, Martin, for the pics.

    Jean
