Looking north up Vine St from Selma Ave toward Hollywood Blvd

Looking north up Vine St from Selma Ave toward Hollywood BlvdThese days, Vine Street between Sunset and Hollywood Boulevards is so packed and built up, it can be hard to remember this was once really just a busy local shopping street with a department store, a bowling alley, a theater, a florist and other independent stores, and a few restaurants. Granted, one of them was the world-famous Brown Derby, but as we can see from this photo (I’m guessing late 1940s), you could casually stroll up Vine in a way that I’ve never done in the 20 years I’ve lived in LA.

So many things I love about this shot, but despite it being a busy shopping area, the palm trees and bits of foliage lend it to me a relaxed air. Wish life was still like this!

    Thanks, Martin.
