These days, Vine Street between Sunset and Hollywood Boulevards is so packed and built up, it can be hard to remember this was once really just a busy local shopping street with a department store, a bowling alley, a theater, a florist and other independent stores, and a few restaurants. Granted, one of them was the world-famous Brown Derby, but as we can see from this photo (I’m guessing late 1940s), you could casually stroll up Vine in a way that I’ve never done in the 20 years I’ve lived in LA.
So many things I love about this shot, but despite it being a busy shopping area, the palm trees and bits of foliage lend it to me a relaxed air. Wish life was still like this!
