I guess it was inevitable that the genteel homes that filled the streets of what is now downtown L.A. would eventually give way to huge buildings, but a shame that we couldn’t have held onto some pockets of it. This is the 200 block of South Olive St, downtown Los Angeles, circa 1895, when most houses of moneyed folk looked like this. However we do have the next best thing: Carroll Ave in Angelino Heights just outside of downtown. The LA Conservancy have a walking tour of the area that’s worth checking out.
