Blossom Room at the Hollywood Roosevelt in Los Angeles when it hosted the first Academy Awards in 1929None of us were fortunate enough to make it to the first Academy Awards ceremony at the Hollywood Roosevelt on Hollywood Boulevard in 1929, but at least in this photo we can catch a glimpse of what the Blossom Room looked like before they let in the Who’s Who. Back then, though, there wouldn’t have been much tension—the guests already knew who’d won. It wouldn’t be until 1941 that the winners’ names would be withheld until the ceremony, which was a savvy move to ensure all the stars attended.
