Almira Hershey's residence, corner of 4th Street and S. Grand Avenue on Bunker Hill, Los Angeles, circa 1896It’s hard to reconcile the scraping of Bunker Hill when you see a home like this. This place belonged to Mira Hershey, who we know more as the owner of the Hollywood Hotel until her death in 1930. She built her house in 1896 at 350 S. Grand Avenue on Bunker Hill, where she lived for 10 years before she got a bit bored and moved the whole thing to 750 W. Fourth Street and turned it into an apartment building. It’s long gone now, but what a sight it must have been at the time.

  1. Picture of House on Bunker Hill simply stunning – before my time but I love it. Sad news – need to have Mr. Blue put down today; I shall miss him terribly but it’s time and he has lived to be 18, which is old for a cat. How are you? And Bob? Love always, Lou.
