I have a number of dates ready to plug into that time machine and this day would be one of them. In this photo, we’re seeing VJ Day – the day victory over Japan was declared, thus ending WWII. It was August 14th, 1945, and this was taken just east of Hollywood and Vine. We can see the vertical neon sign of the Pantages Theater and the Hollywood Boulevard streetcar as it inches westward. I suspect it took a very, very long time to get anywhere on the boulevard that day.
