Corner Wilshire Blvd and La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, December 1932

Corner Wilshire Blvd and La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, December 1932Here, we’re looking west along Wilshire Blvd from the corner of La Brea Ave in December 1932. Pretty much the only thing still standing in this photo is the Dominguez Building which used to house the Myer Siegel & Co. department store, and the Art Deco building farther along at 5500 Wilshire worth slowing down for if you’re driving past it. I especially love that cute little Dyas-Carlton Café on the corner; it later became the much larger McDonnell’s Wilshire Café – does anybody remember eating there?

Here’s how that same corner looked in June 2016. A bit like a war zone, huh?
