I was staring at this photo for probably two minutes before I realized it was the Bradbury Building at the corner of Broadway and 3rd in downtown L.A. This photo is from 1894, so it was taken within a year of the building’s opening. What’s remarkable about the Bradbury Building is that its interior atrium is lit largely by an enormous skylight which changes the colors of the brick work and wrought iron as the sun moves through the sky. Interestingly, 123 years later, it’s still pretty much intact.
