Given the harsh, hardscrabble upbringing that Joan Crawford endured en route to Hollywood stardom, it must have been especially sweet to see her own name (or at least the name Hollywood gave her) strung up across Hollywood Boulevard as her latest movie—“I Live My Life” (1935) played Grauman’s and went on to earn three times its budget. I hope she appreciated the good times while she had them.
