Traffic jam at Hollywood and Vine, 1956

Traffic jam at Hollywood and Vine, 1956As much as we all hate sitting in traffic, some how I wouldn’t mind so much being caught up in rush hour at Hollywood and Vine if it was 1956—especially in that neat little convertible just ahead. On the right we can see that what used to be the Melody Lane restaurant is now Hody’s, and above it a billboard for the Sahara casino in Vegas. Farther down, we can see the vertical sign for Zardi’s Jazzland, which occupied the same space Sardi’s did in the 30s. The Broadway department store sign is on the left and farther down Hollywood Boulevard is the sign for the Hollywood Citizen-News.
